Steve Adams


Steve founded Scynce in 2015 working with a few key launch partners to develop a disruptive LED grow lights system. In 2016 Scynce merged with Illum Technology to fully develop the electronic and controls side of the system. Steve is a graduate of Arizona State Polytechnic University, with a Bachelor of Technology. After graduation Steve joined Skywest Airlines and then America West Airlines as a pilot. In 2007, with the declining economy Steve started Dirtlights to develop and manufacture a line of HID lights for off-road vehicles and aircraft. In 2008, Dirtlights merged with Rigid Industries to revolutionize vehicle lighting. Over the next 8 years, Rigid Industries grew from less than 10 employee’s to over 250. In that time Steve and his partners took a small startup to almost $60m in annual sales. In 2014 Rigid Industries was ranked #150 on the INC 500 list as fastest growing companies in the US. As a partner, Steve worked on all aspects of the company with an emphasis on technology. While heading up product development and engineering, they expanded from 2 contractors to over 25 in house engineering employees. Over the last decade working in high power LED lights Steve Adams now holds over 25 patents in all aspects of LED lighting.

Brent Perkins


Brent leads the Synce team focusing on marketing, brand building and achieving Scynce’s corporate vision. He joined the company in 2017 to compliment the strong engineering team that was already in place. Prior to that, in 2011, Brent joined Noraxon as Director of Sales and Marketing and was promoted to President/CEO in late 2013. During his seven year tenure with the company, he built a team and culture with a focus on integrated software and hardware systems, high-fidelity data and exceptional customer experiences that further enabled research inside and outside of the lab. During the 2000s, Brent spent the decade in executive leadership, sales and marketing positions within the medical and financial fields. Brent is a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management.

Jim Rhodes


Jim is a founder of the company and focuses on the technology side with emphasis on electronics and controls. Jim has worked in industries such as the semiconductor market, telecommunications market, and currently for the last 10 years in LED lighting. Jim holds patents in most of these same markets for electronic and software methods. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University.

Tom Downey


Tom has 20+ years of accounting, financial and operational experience with multiple start-up and early stage growth companies specifically focused in the engineering and technology space. Nine years after starting his career in semiconductor manufacturing with VLSI Technologies he went back to school to pursue a graduate degree in biomedical engineering. After twelve months of study, Tom was invited by the founder to become one of the four original members of Acoustic Technologies Inc., a start-up company that developed the electronics later found in Zounds hearing aids. After ten years with Acoustic, he transitioned from a finance to an operational role, and helped lead Zounds to become the fastest growing hearing aid company in the United States, expanding to over 200 locations in 36 states within a four-year time frame. He has also held key executive level financial positions within the healthcare industry, engaged on improving the quality of life for all patients. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and is an active volunteer within the community.

Mike Wallace


Mike is responsible for all legal operations at Scynce with a keen focus on developing and growing its intellectual property portfolio. Having spent almost 16 years as an electrical engineer with Motorola, Mike is uniquely positioned to monitor, track and ultimately patent the technological advancements at Scynce. Subsequent to Mike’s tenure at Motorola, he attended law school and has since obtained an equal mix of in-house and law firm experience totaling 17 years. Mike is a named inventor on two issued U.S. Patents and several other patent applications now pending before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso and a combined Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, MN, and Arizona State University.

John Heiner

VP of Engineering

John is responsible for the engineering and design of all products at Scynce. He has been part of the Scynce team from inception and continues to have a heavy hand in product development. Prior to Scynce John was owner / operator of a product design firm, Division DEM, for 5 years. At Division DEM he led a small staff of design and manufacturing professionals and take a variety of companies product ideas from concept through the design and prototype phase and onto production. In Johns early career he worked for Honeywell and Orbital Sciences, where he participated in the design, manufacturing, and launch of Space Launch Vehicles (rockets) to deliver satellites into Earth orbit. John holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University.

Grant Cagann

VP Business Development

Grant is responsible for developing distribution channels, delivering on sales targets, and leading client support efforts for Scynce. Based in Oregon, Grant has 15 years of Executive Leadership experience spanning the finance, medical & staffing fields. Grant is also involved in youth sports, as he founded a rapidly growing Futsal organization and league in the Pacific Northwest. Grant holds a Bachelor’s in Finance from Arizona State University.

Greg Selby

Director of Cultivation Sciences

Greg heads up the cultivation research division at Scynce with the goal of creating synergy between plants, lighting and environments. Prior to joining Scynce, Greg was a Production Manager and Head Grower at multiple commercial cannabis and hemp facilities throughout Oregon. Coming from a research background rooted in soil ecology and horticulture from Colorado State University and The University of Northern Colorado, his early work had an emphasis in soil food webs and soil biodiversity. Greg has a unique understanding of plants’ needs and their corresponding physiology. Greg and his wife now reside in Arizona to practice year round urban farming and work with farmers in different and unique soil systems.

Creative Director

With a degree in Fine Arts from SFSU and a Graphic Design degree from the Academy of Art University San Francisco, German has worked in graphic design and the creative fields for the better part of 20 years. Born in Uruguay, country of free just about anything, he brings those South-of-the-border-under-the-belt flavors into everything he does, and pushes for our brand to stay true, original, and coveted. He spends his days keeping us looking fresh, enjoying time with his family, camping, playing soccer (– Slap, football ) and jamming on whatever 6 string device he can get his hands on to.
